Duiletter Lodge
Duiletter Lodge is situated in the heart of Glenstrae in marvellous mountain scenery. There are spectacular views up the glen to the north and down Loch Awe to the south.
The lodge is the hub of an agricultural and sporting estate. The property is well located for easy access for touring the many interesting parts of Argyll and is around 25 miles from both Inverary and Oban, the gateway to the islands. In addition to stalking and fishing the area is noted for the variety of outdoor pursuits available such as hill walking, golf, sailing, rock climbing, bird watching and sea fishing. ACCOMMODATION The lodge is to be let for a maximum of ten people, although eight adults is the ideal number from a comfort point of view. On the ground floor there is a sitting room with an open fire, a dining room, a cloak room and two twin bedded rooms. The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge, freezer, dishwasher, electric cooker, Rayburn and larder and there is a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer and a drying room for wet clothes. On the upper floor there are 3 bedrooms (1 double bedded room and two twin bedded rooms all with basins) and two bathrooms. All beds have duvets and electric blankets. FISHING Single bank fishing for 4 Rods on the Lower Craig Water of the River Orchy is included with the let of the lodge. The River Orchy is a spate river and salmon and grilse can be caught when conditions are right. The fishing stretches along the north bank from the Old Dalmally Bridge (Smiddy Bridge) to the road bridges by Loch Awe. There is an estate boat with outboard motor for use by the tenants on Loch Awe where trout and pike are regularly caught. This can be used if accompanied by a ghillie and life jackets must be worn. There is trout fishing on small lochans not far from the lodge, one of which is stocked with rainbow trout. In addition there is trout fishing on the River Strae which runs the length of the glen down to the Orchy. STALKING Stalking is available in September and October. The forest normally culls around 30 stags per season and neighbours the well known deer forests of Blackmount and Glenkinglass. There will normally be one rifle out on the hill each day from Monday to Friday of each week but if tenants miss a day's stalking due to bad weather it may be possible to stalk on Saturdays. Donald Dempster and Mark Brown make up the stalking team, both being very experienced stalkers. Hind stalking is available later in the year along with rough shooting for pheasant and duck. |
