Upper North Wark, River Tweed
Upper North Wark is an excellent lower Tweed beat with nearly one mile of prime water which is most productive in mid to high river levels. The famous Snipe Rock pool is reputed to be one of the best on Tweed during periods of high water when the conditions are most favorable.
The beat has ample off-road parking and a well-appointed fishing hut equipped with heating, lighting, cooking facilities and a toilet. The hut is situated at the centre of the beat and all pools are easily accessed, however it is worth noting that the steps down from the car parking area are quite steep. The Head Ghillie, Martin Ritchie, provides a warm welcome and there is second ghillie when required. Upper North Wark is a two rod beat, but this can extended to accommodate three rods upon request depending on the river levels. Two boats are used to fish from. The fishery is located east of Lower Birgham, near Fireburn Mill on the north (Scottish) side of the Tweed. The beat is easily accessed by car from the A698. All skill levels are welcome at the Upper North Wark: whether you are a beginner wanting to perfect your cast or learn to tie a fly, the experienced ghillies will provide you free coaching throughout your day. If you are a beginner, we recommend coming down between May and August to get the most from your time on the river. |
