Knock House
The 17,000 acre Benmore Estate lies at the heart of the Island of Mull and offers a wonderful base from which to explore Mull and nearby islands of Iona and Staffa.
ACCOMMODATION Knock House is a stone built lodge dating from late 18th century with substantial Victorian additions, situated at the head of Loch na Keal. It is centrally heated and was fully refurbished in 2004 to an exceptional standard. The accommodation comprises reception hall, three principle public rooms, 12 bedrooms and 8 bath/shower rooms with snooker room, and family kitchen. It will sleep up to 22 guests comfortably with additional accommodation for a cook/nanny if required. Please note the dining room sits a maximum of 20 guests. The house can be let partially or fully staffed; self catered or fully catered as required. Well behaved dogs are welcome in certain ground floor areas of the house and there is kennel accommodation for 2 dogs outside. SALMON & SEA TROUT FISHING The estate has fishing on both the River Ba and Loch Ba. The River Ba is approximately 2 miles in length and consists of some 6 named pools. The river flows out of Loch Ba and runs down to Loch na Keal. Salmon and sea trout run the system from late June to October. Loch Ba is almost 3 miles in length and offers excellent salmon and sea trout fishing amidst spectacular highland scenery. The estate has two clinker built fishing boats on the loch with outboard motors in addition to a recently converted fishing bothy for use by house guests. Fishing is mostly by fly and dapping, given the right conditions can be most effective. Sea Fishing and BoatingLoch na Keal offers excellent quality sea fishing and the estate also successfully creel for lobster, prawn and crab in the loch. The estate have a sea fishing boat which is available for use for house guests in addition to a larger sea boat which is used for sea trips and visits to nearby islands and beaches. STALKING The Benmore Estate is a famous deer forest with some of the finest stalking grounds in Argyll. 20-25 stags are shot each year and in most weeks up to two stalking parties can be accommodated on the hill each day. Mull stags are impressively large and stalking is available from mid August onwards. The scenery is truly spectacular and provides the ideal setting in which to stalk Scottish red deer. |
