Glen Etive House

Sleeping up to 10 people, the lodge is situated near the head of Loch Etive amongst spectacular scenery. It has magnificent views of the lower River Etive as well as down the loch itself. The services of an excellent cook are included in the rent.

The resident stalker together with a ghillie look after the sporting needs of the guests. Both ponies and an argocat are available to take beasts off the hill and about 25 stags are shot annually.

From about the beginning of July salmon and sea trout fishing for up to 6 rods is available together with sea fishing on Loch Etive and brown and rainbow trout in the smaller hill lochs.

ACCOMMODATION

The house is a white harled, two-storey building situated on the site of the old lodge which was pulled down in 1978. The ground floor comprises a sitting room, dining room, kitchen with cooking by gas and electricity, drying room, cloakroom, larder, utility room with fridge, deep freeze, washing machine and tumble dryer. There is a separate twin bedroom with own bathroom and WC off the gunroom.

On the first floor there are two doubles and three twin bedrooms (three of which have basins) and two bathrooms.

Twelve is the maximum number of people permitted to stay in the house. The house is let fully furnished including all linen, cutlery and china, hot water, electricity and logs. Oil-fired central heating is available.

FISHING

The Etive is a spate river and is fished with fly only. It can be fished from either bank and it is suggested that four rods per beat should be the absolute maximum. The season runs from the middle of June until the middle of October.

The Glen Etive House water runs from Coileitir Bridge to the loch. There are eight named pools in this stretch of the river and it is about two and a half miles in length.

The stretch of water above this, which runs for about four miles from Dalness to Coileitir Bridge, is jointly owned by Dalness and Black Mount Estates. This is divided into two beats. From 1 July to 8 August the fishing includes the two beats, alternating daily with Dalness Estate, together with the bottom beat. After 8 August, only the bottom beat is available to tenants.

Sea Trout on Loch Etive
A good boat with an outboard engine is available for fishing on Loch Etive. This has not often been undertaken and it is difficult to indicate what the results may be but there are certainly sea trout to be caught in the loch, as well as other sea fish.

Brown Trout on Loch Ba
Loch Ba is situated immediately to the north of the A82 between Black Mount and the Kingshouse Hotel and is about fifteen miles from Glen Etive House. This beautiful loch, which is approximately two miles in length and has one boat, is dotted with attractive islands, many of which have lovely sandy beaches. The trout run two or three to the pound and fishing is by fly only. Due to narrow channels and submerged rocks, care is needed with navigation. Various other small lochs with small trout are also available in Glen Etive.

STALKING

The low ground in the glen is forest and although some stags and roe may be shot in the woods, the main stalking ground is above the tree line. A limited number of stags (approximately 12-15) are shot each season and tenants must always be accompanied by Ian Dingwall, the stalker, who has the use of a quad bike for recovery purposes.
